Abstract

In a world where nearly all aspects of our lives are entwined with computer technology, we often forget about a key aspect of survival – warmth. Residential heating system, though often equipped with some forms of logic controllers, are seldom comfortably interfacable with each other and common personal computers, without further investments into a specific venor’s technological ecosystem. The goal of this thesis is to design a central data acquisition system using as much of the existing sensors and controllers as possible for a combined heating system situated in a residential building’s utility room in Tartu, Estonia. The existing system was throughly studied and basing on those findings, a design for a data acquisition system was offered alongside with specific devices and neccessary software solutions for an optimal user experience. The solution and design presented in the thesis can be used as a reference for an installation and a full software project. Within the work, expansion solutions are offered with the goal of creating a fully integrated system.
