Abstract
Tehtud kalkulatsioonide tulemusel selgus, et töös vaatluse all olnud põhitoiduainete asendamine mahetoiduainetega muudaks toidukulud päevas lapse kohta 8-12% kallimaks.

The Estonian Organic Farming Development Plan for 2014-2020 has set a goal that sees 30% of the institutions involving children, consume organic food by 2020. The biggest obstacle is thought to be the cost of organic food, due to the lack of experience in switching to organic food. The aim of this bachelor´s thesis was to identify the change in cost of food for a child per day in selected kindergartens when switching the main sources of food to organic food. The theoretical part of the thesis focused on the essence of a healthy diet, feeding behaviour and the factors affecting it, as well as the importance and appreciation of organic food in Estonia. The empirical part of the thesis used a questionnaire survey and phone interviews. The questionnaire surveys were conducted among kindergarten staff and the phone interviews among organic food providers in addition to AS Kaupmees & KO. The calculations showed that switching the selected main food sources to organic would increase the daily cost per child by 8-12%. This meant that the predicted increase in cost by the staff was too high. The author believes that the increase in cost would have been higher had more food sources been selected for comparison. The author suggests starting with serving organic food as replacements for selected meals or food groups, as was done in the study. This would not increase the cost of food significantly.
