This dataset supports the study “Estimating Soil Sealing in Estonia: Copernicus, National Data, and Reference-Based Assessment”. The study compared European and national spatial datasets used for soil sealing monitoring in Estonia, including CLC+ Backbone, Imperviousness Density, the European Soil Sealing Index, and a proxy derived from the Estonian Topographic Database.
The dataset includes the final stratified reference-assessment sample of 1500 assessment units for 2021, the four-class ETD–CLC+ stratification raster, sampled private and production yards, and digitized additional sealed or compacted surfaces identified within the sampled yards. Reference sealing was interpreted from national orthophotos using direct visual assessment and, where required, a regular 100-point grid within each 10 × 10 m assessment unit. Yard-level digitization was used to estimate sealing omitted from the ETD-derived proxy because of national topographic mapping rules.
The data can be used to reproduce the reported area estimates, examine dataset disagreement, and assess yard-related omissions in national soil sealing monitoring. Original third-party source datasets are not redistributed; their providers, reference years, access locations, and licensing conditions are documented separately.
