Abstrakt
Viimastel aastatel on toidukaupade hinnatõus kujunenud suureks majanduslikuks koormuseks paljudele leibkondadele.
In recent years, the increase in food prices has become a significant economic burden for many households. Food belongs to essential goods, and people cannot completely give up its consumption, which means that rising prices increase households’ daily expenses. The aim of this bachelor’s thesis was to analyse food inflation in the Baltic States and Poland during the period 2020–2024. The analysis was based on monthly data from the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) category “food and non-alcoholic beverages” provided by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union. The empirical analysis showed that the highest increase in food prices occurred in 2022, while the highest food inflation was recorded in Lithuania. Food price growth in the Baltic States was generally faster than in Poland and the European Union average. Food price levels were mainly influenced by rising energy prices, increasing production and transportation costs, and disruptions in international supply chains.
