Abstrakt

This study aimed to assess the seed and protein yields of field pea–bean mixtures under Estonian conditions. Field experiments with pea–bean intercrops, comprising of two early-maturing and two late-maturing varieties, were conducted in 2024–2025 at the METK Jõgeva experimental field under conventional farming conditions. The trials were established on 5 m² plots with three replications. In the pea–bean mixtures, 50% of the full seeding rate of each species was used. Pea–bean mixtures produced stable yields across years with varying extreme weather conditions. The mixture of early-maturing varieties resulted in a higher total seed yield compared to the mixture of late-maturing varieties. Protein yield was the highest in the early-maturing varieties mixture in the rainy year and was closely associated with increased total seed yield.
