Abstrakt
Astelpaju töötlemisel tekivad kõrvalsaadused – lehed, seemned, pressjääk –, mis sisaldavad
märkimisväärses koguses väärtuslikke ühendeid. Nende kõrvalsaaduste võimalik kasutamine
loomasöödas on pälvinud tähelepanu seoses vajadusega leida alternatiivseid ja tervist
toetavaid söödakomponente. Kuigi astelpaju kasutamist on uuritud põhjalikult inimese toidus
Saadud
tulemused kinnitasid astelpaju kõrvalsaaduste perspektiivi tervist toetavate
söödakomponentidena, kuid nende praktiliseks kasutamiseks on vajalikud täiendavad
uuringud.
The processing of sea buckthorn results in by-products such as leaves, seeds and pomace, which contain considerable amounts of valuable compounds. The potential use of these byproducts in animal feed has gained attention due to the need for alternative and functional feed components. Although sea buckthorn has been extensively studied in human nutrition and medicine, there is still limited information available regarding the use of its by-products in equine nutrition. The aim of this bachelor’s thesis was to provide an overview of the chemical composition and nutritional value of sea buckthorn by-products and to evaluate their use in horse feeding. The thesis was based on scientific literature and laboratory analyses of the chemical composition of sea buckthorn leaves, pomace with and without seeds and seeds. The analyses included the determination of dry matter, crude protein, crude fibre, crude fat, crude ash and mineral content. In addition, metabolisable energy and digestible protein contents were calculated using different feed evaluation systems for horses. The results showed that the studied by-products differed significantly in their nutritional value. Seeds had the highest crude protein content, whereas seedless pomace contained the highest levels of fat and metabolisable energy. Based on the literature, sea buckthorn byproducts may support digestive health, immune function, and skin and coat condition in horses. The results of the study confirmed the potential of sea buckthorn by-products as health supporting feed components, however; further studies are needed to evaluate their practical application in horse diets.
