Keskkonnateadlikud hoiakud ja harjumused kujunevad varases eas ning koolil on
võimalus olla oluliseks eeskujuks. Keskkonnasõbralikkusega seotud teemade käsitlemine
on koolides erinev, mõned koolid tegelevad nendega aktiivselt, teistes koolides pööratakse
Koolides tehtavate
keskkonnasõbralike tegevuste hulgas nimetati jäätmete liigiti kogumist, taaskasutust,
keskkonnateemade käsitlemist õppetöös, projekte, programme, üritusi, toidu
väärtustamist, õuesõpet, ressursside säästmist, keskkonnasõbralikku liikumist ja
loodushoidlikke tegevusi. Koolides soodustab keskkonnasõbralikke tegevusi osalemine
keskkonnateemalistes programmides, kampaaniates, üritustel, teemapäevadel ja
projektides, samuti koolitöötajate eeskuju, rohetiimi olemasolu, kooli selge nägemus
keskkonnasõbralikust tegutsemisest ning koolitöötajate teadlikkus. Koolide
keskkonnasõbralikumaks muutmise peamiste takistustena toodi esile rahaliste ressursside
nappus, aja puudus, õpilaste vähene huvi ning õppehoone piiratud võimalused. Koolide
keskkonnasõbralikumaks muutmisel pidas koolipere kõige olulisemaks teadlikkuse
tõstmist, korralduslikke ja juhtimisega seotud muudatusi, koolitaristu parandamist,
õuesõppe osakaalu suurendamist, säästvate tegevuste suurendamist ning tähelepanu
pööramist jäätmete sorteerimisele ja puhtuse hoidmisele. Selgus, et Tartu linna
põhikoolide hetkeolukord on pigem positiivne, kuid leidub arenguvõimalusi, millele
tulevikus keskenduda. Eelkõige on oluline võtta senisest süsteemsem suund ja seada
selgemad eesmärgid.
Environmental awareness, attitudes, and habits develop at an early age, and schools have the opportunity to serve as important role models. The way topics related to environmental sustainability are addressed varies from school to school. Some schools engage with them actively, while others pay less attention to these issues. The aim of this bachelor's thesis was to map the current state of environmental sustainability in general education schools in the city of Tartu and to offer schools practical recommendations for further development. To achieve these objectives, the author conducted a document analysis of materials published on school websites, as well as a questionnaire survey among 8th- and 9th-grade students, deputy head teachers, and teachers. Among the environmentally friendly activities reported in schools were waste sorting, recycling, the integration of environmental topics into teaching, projects, programmes, events, valuing food, outdoor learning, saving resources, environmentally friendly mobility, and other nature-friendly practices. In schools, environmentally friendly activities are promoted by participation in environmental programmes, campaigns, events, theme days, and projects, as well as by the example set by school staff, the presence of a green team, the school's clear vision for environmentally friendly action, and the environmental awareness of staff. The main obstacles to making schools more environmentally friendly were identified as a lack of financial resources, lack of time, low student interest, and the limited possibilities offered by school buildings. In making schools more environmentally friendly, the school community considered the most important measures to be raising awareness, management-related changes, improving school infrastructure, increasing the share of outdoor learning, expanding sustainable practices, and paying greater attention to waste sorting and cleanliness. The results showed that the current situation in Tartu's basic schools is generally positive, although there are still opportunities for further improvement. Above all, it is important to adopt a more systematic approach and to set clearer goals.
