Metsad sisaldavad märkimisväärset osa maailma süsinikuvarudest- ning oluline osa
metsade süsinikust on talletatud maa-alustesse varudesse. Et mõista paremini
kasvavat kliimamuutuste probleemi, on oluline uurida metsade süsinikuvarusid.
Käesoleva bakalaureusetöö eesmärgiks on hinnata peenjuurte (d˂2 mm) biomassi
erineva vanusega kase-kuuse segapuistutes. Mõõtmised viidi läbi seitsmel
proovitükil: 18-, 25-, 40-, 50-, 60-aastases ning 30- aastases kase enamusega ning 30-
aastases kuuse enamusega puistus.
Katsealade biomassi määramiseks kasutati mullamonoliitide meetodit;
mullamonoliidid võeti spetsiaalse mullapuuriga (Ø 38 mm) 40 cm sügavuseni. Igalt
proovialalt võeti 11-13 mullamonoliiti, mis jaotati neljaks sügavuskihiks (0-10; 10-
20; 20-30; 30-40 cm). Mullamonoliitide võtmine toimus 2015. aasta kevadel.
Peenjuurte biomass oli 18- aastases puistus 4,33 t/ha (sellest kaskede peenjuurte biomass
1,51 t/ha, kuuskede 2,38 t/ha, rohttaimede 0,43 t/ha), 25- aastases puistus 5,54 t/ha (KS
2,20 t/ha, KU 3,08 t/ha, ROHT 0,27 t/ha), 30-aastases kase-enamusega puistus 4,80 t/ha
(KS 2,67 t/ha, KU 1,83 t/ha, ROHT 0,30 t/ha), 30-aastases kuuse-enamusega puistus
3,91 t/ha (KS 1,06 t/ha, KU 2,71 t/ha, ROHT 0,15 t/ha), 40- aastases puistus 3,57 t/ha
(KS 0,92 t/ha, KU 2,54 t/ha, ROHT 0,11 t/ha), 50- aastases puistus 4,20 t/ha (KS 0,83
t/ha, KU 3,05 t/ha, ROHT 0,32 t/ha), 60-aastases puistus 6,08 t/ha (KS 2,28 t/ha, KU
3,21 t/ha, ROHT 0,59 t/ha).
Forests contain a significant part of Earth’s carbon stocks and a big part of forest carbon is stored in the below-ground carbon pool. In order to understand better the increasing problem of climate change, it is important to estimate the forests carbon pools. The aim of the present thesis is to assess the fine root (d˂2 mm) biomass in birch (Betula pendula)- spruce (Picea abies) mixed forests. The data was collected from seven stands: 18-, 25-, 40-, 50-, 60 year olds and from a 30- year old birch majority and 30- year old spruce majority plots. The soil core method was used to determine the stands biomass; the samples were taken with a special soil auger (Ø 38 mm) from 40 cm soil depth. 11-13 samples were taken from each plot, which were divided into four depth layers (0-10; 10-20; 20-30; 30-40 cm). Samples were taken in spring 2015. The fine root biomass in the 18- year old stand was 4,33 t/ha (of that the Silver birch fine root biomass was 1,51 t/ha, Norway spruce 2,38 t/ha, grasses 0,43 t/ha), 25- year old stand 5,54 t/ha (respectively 2,20 t/ha; 3,08 t/ha; 0,27 t/ha), 30- year old birch majority stand 4,80 t/ha (respctively 2,67 t/ha; 1,83 t/ha; 0,30 t/ha), 30- year old spruce majority stand 3,91 t/ha (respectively 1,06 t/ha; 2,71 t/ha; 0,15 t/ha), 40- year old stand 3,57 t/ha (respectively 0,92 t/ha; 2,54 t/ha; 0,11 t/ha), 50- year old stand 4,20 t/ha (respectively 0,83 t/ha; 3,05 t/ha; 0,32 t/ha), 60- year old stand 6,08 t/ha (respectively 2,28 t/ha; 3,21 t/ha; 0,59 t/ha).
