About the COMBIVET & OH-Boost Joint Conference 2023 This conference is jointly organised by the ERA Chair COMBIVET and OH- Boost Twinning Project of the Estonian University of Life Sciences in partnership with the University of Tartu (UT), University of Helsinki (UH) the University of Milan (UniMi) and Baltic Society of Extracellular Vesicles (BSEV). The COMBIVET and OH-Boost programmes are supported by European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 857418 COMBIVET and the European Union through Horizon coordination and support actions under grant agreement No. 101079349 OH-Boost respectively.
I am delighted to warmly welcome you to the COMBIVET & OH-Boost Joint Conference 2023, a collaborative effort among the COMBIVET ERA Chair of Comparative Medicine, the One Health-Boost (OH- Boost) project involving the Estonian University of Life Sciences and University of Tartu, in partnership with University of Helsinki and University of Milan, and the Baltic Society of Extracellular Vesicles. It is with great pride that I share that this marks the 7th Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) conference organized by the Fazeli Lab. In recent times, there has been a significant surge in interest surrounding EVs across various scientific domains, particularly in fields associated with cancer, infectious diseases, and inflammation. Moreover, the role of EVs as crucial mediators in cell-to-cell interactions has positioned them as highly promising targets for theranostics. What was once a topic predominantly explored in the realm of human medicine has now expanded its reach, captivating the attention of investigators in veterinary medicine, as well as those working with plants and microorganisms. This dynamic evolution has transformed EVs into an incredibly enticing and vibrant field of scientific exploration. Led by the COMBIVET ERA Chair of Comparative Medicine at the Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences of the Estonian University of Life Sciences, and previously under the ERA Chair of the Translational Genomics program (TransGeno) at the University of Tartu, a vibrant collaboration has been established. Researchers with shared interests in exploring extracellular vesicles (EVs), understanding their characteristics, and investigating their potential roles in various human and animal ailments such as infertility, reproductive disorders, osteoarthritis, and psoriasis have come together. It is equally crucial to highlight the ONE Health-Boost (OH-Boost) project, which forms an integral part of our collective efforts. This project is aimed at elevating research and innovation excellence and enhancing management capacities at the Estonian University of Life Sciences and University of Tartu within the realm of One Health. The vision of the OH- Boost project is realized through a synergistic partnership with University of Helsinki and University of Milan. With unwavering determination, we are committed to joining forces to ensure the triumph of this project. Throughout our journey, we have gained significant expertise encompassing diverse facets of EV purification and characterization. We have published our insights into the biology of EVs in esteemed journals, fostering robust collaborations, and leveraging our EV knowledge to extend into novel realms within life sciences and medicine. Hence, through the organization of this conference, we aspire to establish a fertile ground for sharing and seamlessly integrating multidisciplinary scientific insights. Our goal is to create a thriving environment ripe for networking, collaboration, and career advancement opportunities. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the speakers, participants, and the diligent organizing committee of the conference for your invaluable contributions that played a key role in making the event a resounding success. The conference provided an exceptional platform for meaningful scientific debates and discussions, and I am genuinely hopeful that it will leave a lasting impact. With great anticipation, I look forward to the success of the COMBIVET & OH-Boost Joint Conference 2023.
