Metsade kõrvalkasutus on osa eestlaste elamiskultuurist: lisaks metsast saadavale puidule on olulised ka metsa mittepuidulised saadused. Mitmesugused metsasaadusi kasutatakse erinevates eluvaldkondades ja need võivad aidata maapiirkondade elanikel endale elatist teenida. Olenevalt saadusest on neid võimalik erinevatel viisil kasutada, näiteks toiduks või käsitööks. Metsade kõrvalkasutus on metsamajanduse mitmeotstarbelise kasutamise oluline komponent, kuid metsasaadustele on teaduses ja valitsustes siiani vähe tähelepanu pööratud.
Bakalaureusetöö eesmärgiks on Euroopa Metsainstituudi poolt mittepuiduliste metsasaaduste kohta Eestis läbiviidud küsitluse tulemuste esitamine ja analüüs. Töös kasutatud andmed on kogutud Euroopa Metsainstituudi juhitud StarTree projekti raames.
Non- wood forest products are part of our living culture, in addition to timber from the forest, non- wood forest products are important. A variety of forest products are used in various walks of life and often help people in rural areas to earn living. Depending on the product, they can be used in several ways, for example for food or handicrafts. Non- wood forest products are an important component of the multi- purpose use of forestry but forest products have so far received little attention in science and government. The aim of the bachelor’s thesis is to introduce and analyse the results of the survey conducted by the European Forest Institute on non- wood forest products in Estonia The data used in the work have been collected within the framework of the StarTree project of the European Forest Institute. The household was selected as the basic unit of analysis. The work consists of four chapters and gives an overview of which products were consumed in Estonia in 2015, what were the restrictions on picking, how many people picked several times and whether the picking of products also contributed to the household income. The results of the work show that fresh or dried nuts are consumed the most. Most Are picked berries and mushrooms and picked products on the household income does not contribute. On average people collected 13- 24 times during the year and the main constraint was bad weather. Based on the results of this research and RMK’s research conducted in 2011 it turns out that mushrooms and berries are collected the most over the years. In conclusion, it can be said that non-wood products are important to Estonians and are consumed a lot, so at the national level more attention could be paid to them and more research could be done into how much they are actually consumed and harvested.
