Valge peakapsas (Brassica oleracea L. var. capitata) on enimlevinud kapsa varieteet, mille kaubanduslikku saaki vähendavad enim liblikaliste röövikud, keda ohjatakse peamiselt sünteetiliste taimekaitsevahenditega, viimastel on aga mitmeid negatiivseid kõrvalmõjusid. Alternatiivseks võimaluseks on seltsilistaimede kasutamine: kultuurile kasvatatava taime omadused (lõhn, värvus) peletavad kahjureid ja/või meelitavad kasulikke lülijalgseid. Antud uurimustöö eesmärgiks oli välja selgitada kas ja millised seltsilistaimed pärsivad kapsaöölaste arvukust valgel peakapsal. Katsetööd viidi läbi 2010. ja 2011. aasta suvel Tartumaal, Eerikal, EMÜ katsepõllul, kus uuriti kolme taimeliigi: aedtilli, kivikilbiku ja hiid-iisopi mõju kapsa–öölaste esinemisele. Suveperioodil mõjutasid temperatuurid ja sademed seltsilistaimede kasvu. Till mõjus kapsaöölasele peletavalt, mis näitab tema efektiivsust seltsilistaimena valgele peakapsale ennetamaks kapsaöölase kahjustust. Antud uurimuse tulemused, mis näitasid katses kasutatud seltsilistaimede efektiivsust, annavad põhjust edaspidiste katsete läbiviimiseks leidmaks veelgi teisi seltsilistaimi, mida oleks võimalik kasutada põhikultuuri paremaks kaitseks ja kasvamiseks.
The white cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. var. capitata) is the most common cabbage variety shown, which commercial worth is reduced mostly by lepidopteran caterpillars, which are controlled primarily with synthetic pesticides which have several negative side effects. For an alternative possibility is to grow companion plants: culture grown plant characteristics (odour, colour) will deter pests and/ or attract beneficial arthropods. The aim of this study was to determine whether and to what companion plants inhibit the abundance of the cabbage moth on white cabbage. The study was carried out in 2010 and in 2011 summer on the experimental fields of Estonian University of Life Sciences in Eerika, Tartu County. The influence of three companion plants (dill, giant hyssop and alyssum) on the occurrence of the cabbage moth was studied. The temperatures and the amount of rainfall in the summer period affected the growth of companion plants. Dill was the least attractive companion plant for the cabbage moth, which demonstrated its efficacy as suitable companion plant for white cabbage to avoid moths’ damages. The results of this study showed the efficacy of the studied companion plants, although, further studies are necessary to find more suitable plants for companion planting that could be used for ecologically and economically sustainable plant production.
