Different aspects of occupational accidents and job related illnesses studied. Previous theses have studied works safety and -healthcare in general, but concrete study of registered occupational accidents and job related illnesses in Estonian forestry section haven’t been made before. Objective of this study is the better understanding of reasons and factors why occupational accidents and job related illnesses happen and means of prevention. Thesis is based on registered data of occupational accidents and job related illnesses by Labour Inspectorate. Accidents that weren’t related to the subject were filtered out. Men involved most in the accidents. 66% of accidents resulted in light bodily harm, 32% in grievous bodily harm and 2% of accidents ended with death. Main factors were classified as other reasons and infringement of work safety rules by employee. Most accidents happened during deforestation jobs, main injuries were cuts and surface wounds. 38% of accidents were related with lower extremities. Most accidents were caused by impact from a falling object (tree, branch, log). Most accidents during work with handheld tools (saws) by losing control over it. 56% of accidents happened with workers with work experience less than two years. 35 days was average incapacity to work. Men involved most with job related illnesses and in age class 48-52, main illness was hearing loss due to noise. Main danger factor was physical danger. For the improvement of those circumstances have to abide work safety rules more carefully, be more tentative working with saws, take into consideration other people and environment during felling and pay more attention to uneven and heaped surafces when moving from one location to other.
