Abstrakt
Ökoturism on mõistena eksisteerinud juba üle 40 aasta. Ökoturismi teenuseid pakutakse tänaseni, kuid mitte väga teadvustatult, sest mõistena on see unustusehõlma kadunud.
Ecotourism has existed as a concept for over 40 years. The original origin of the term is relatively unclear, as the idea of ecotourism has been described long before ecotourism got its name. When ecotourism as a concept arrived in Estonia, a relatively active development of ecotourism and a wider introduction of the principle began. Due to the specific character of the location of ecotourism, the development of the field turned out to be rather complicated, and thus several more active ecotourism ventures were dispersed. Ecotourism services are offered to this day, but not very consciously, because as a concept it has disappeared into oblivion. In the era of sustainable travel, the question arises, what role does ecotourism play in this movement and should this field be developed more actively in Estonia in the future? The aim of this work was to investigate how ecotourism service providers themselves conceptualize and understand ecotourism. In addition, we wanted to know their assessment of the current situation in the field and their expectations for the future. In order to obtain data, a semi-structured interview was conducted with four service providers operating in the field of ecotourism. The interviews were transcribed, coded and a content analysis was created. The results show that ecotourism is mostly not offered consciously, and although the general meaning of ecotourism is understood, it cannot be distinguished from sustainable tourism in general. Service providers tend not to see any shortcomings in the field, and although direct help is not expected, it was found that some kind of push from the state could be useful. The idea of a network bringing together Estonian ecotourism entrepreneurs seemed like an idea that could be implemented to the majority of respondents. This bachelor thesis is rather general and due to the small sample the results are not fundamental, but regardless, there could be potential for further in-depth research of this topic.
