Eesti metsanduse arengukavas on metsade efektiivne ja jätkusuutlik kasutamine olulisel
kohal. Selle tagamiseks on muuhulgas vaja mõista puude kasvudünaamika sõltuvust
kohta ajavahemikus 1947-2007.
Sustainable and effective forest management is of great importance in Estonian politics of forestry. In order to maintain sustainable forestry and to further improve it, one needs to understand how various factors, including natural and anthropogenic disturbances and climatic factors, influence tree growth. The aim of this study is to identify and analyse the affect of disturbances (thinning, impact of pine looper moth) and climatic factors on radial growth of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) in Käsmu peninsula. Sample trees were cored in three separate study sites, the widths of tree-rings were measured and standardised. Regression and correlation analyses were carried out in order to identify relationships between climatic variables and radial growth of trees. Climatic data (monthly average temperatures and total precipitation) from 1947 to 2007 was gathered from Kunda weather station. Information regarding logging activities was gathered from the archives of Sagadi. Results of the study showed positive impact of thinning on the growth of the remaining trees. Also, due to the negative impact of pine looper moth, there were some missing tree-rings in tree cores in one study site. The correlations between climatic factors and tree growth proved to be different in each study site; generally, the influence of temperature and precipitation was not significant.
