Kirje Embrüosiirdamine lambal(Eesti Maaülikool, 2024) Langa, Liza; Reilent, Andres (juhendaja); Viljaste-Seera, Anni (juhendaja)Lammaste aretuses on Eestis peamiselt kasutusel loomulik paaritus, autorile teadaolevalt pole embrüotootmist ning -siirdamist seni rakendatud. Seeläbi on võimalik karja geneetilist väärtust tõsta elusloomi transportimata. See vähendab loomadele transportimisega põhjustatavat stressi ning haiguste levikut. Uttede reproduktiivtrakti iseäralik anatoomia muudab abistava reproduktsiooni tehnoloogiate rakendamise keerukaks. See on võimalik põhjus, miks nende kasutamine seni Eestis levinud pole. Kirje Treatment of postpartum uterine infections in dairy cattle with prostaglandin F2α or prostaglandin F2α in combination with antibiotics and their effect on pregnancy rate(Eesti Maaülikool, 2023) Tahvanainen, Saku; Reilent, Andres (juhendaja)Postpartum uterine diseases are some of the most economically important conditions affecting dairy farms today. By reducing fertility, the empty period is lengthened, and potential milk production is lost. Prompt and effective treatment of such conditions is essential for the farm to achieve the most economical profit it can. In this study we reviewed and compared farm data of two treatment methods used for postpartum uterine infections. The aim was to figure out if prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) or PGF2α combined with antibiotics (AB) would lead to a better pregnancy rate. A total of 112 cows with postpartum uterine inflammation were selected from Vissuke performance recording system, 56 of each treatment group. All animals were treated first time for uterine disease, as far as it was evident from the data between 2018-2019. The animals were divided into 3 groups by milk yield. The PGF2α + AB-treated animals needed more inseminations, but this was statistically significant only in high-yielding animals. Addition of AB into PGF2α-treatment led to a 1.61x risk of being inseminated one additional time compared to their PGF2α-treated counterparts. According to these results, PGF2α-treatment of uterine diseases is preferable to PGF2α + AB-treatment. However, PGF2α + AB-treated animals likely had a more severe disease which is why addition of AB seems to suggest a worse prognosis in terms of fertility. A prospective study with randomization of treatments should be conducted to gain more conclusive data about the efficacy of these treatments.
