Resilience based restoration of mangrove ecology in the Kingdom of Bahrain

According to new sea-level rise projections, the global mean sea level could rise by as much as 2.0 meters by the end of this century. To adjust to the unpredictable fluctuations in water levels and precipitation, coastal communities must react with innovative planning strategies. Mangrove infrastructure is identified in this research-design study as an adaptable design approach that could improve coastal communities' resilience to sea-level rise and solutions to extend the shoreline by restoring the mangrove habitat. This thesis recommends mangrove infrastructure to achieve these aims but considers its limits and relates the combined beneficial impact of grey and green infrastructure to shoreline regeneration. On the extent of Al Sanad and Al Eker residential communities in the Tubli Bay region of Bahrain, mangrove infrastructure is included in a planning application that directly tackles sea level rise.
