Exploring the potential of applying genius loci as a concept in landscape architecture

Genius loci is an extremely complex and multidimensional concept and understanding phenomenological attributes of genius loci can be helpful for creating meaningful and pleasant place. This thesis consists of two main steps: The first step, is analyzing the existing litterateurs about the genius loci and the second step is for emphasizing the most important aspects of genius loci by using a visual survey to shows the mean- opinion-score (MOS). The purpose of this study was to develop and test a framework of genius loci which integrates multiple approaches to place physical dimensions and its cognition. Fifteen picture of specified place samples has been chosen, each sample were evaluated through nine attribute by thirteen students of landscape architecture. According to averages, In the studied samples, first "Uniformity", second "Relationship with nature", and third "Domination of sky" received a higher grade, respectively.
